Employees in the public and private sectors are invited to enrol in the Management Institute for National Development (MIND) State Protocol and Business Etiquette workshop, scheduled for June 30 to July 8 at its campus on Old Hope Road. The workshop is aimed at equipping the participants with the necessary skills and confidence to display the appropriate behaviour and decorum regarding State Protocol and related etiquette.
Speaking with JIS News, Marketing Manager at MIND, Shawnette Henry, said persons whose job functions require high levels of social engagement and interaction, and persons who are interested in becoming knowledgeable of the rules that govern State Protocol and Social Etiquette are encouraged to sign up. “Oganisations will benefit because a professionally confident and socially skilled corps of executives will represent their organisations with distinction on all occasions, while individuals will benefit from an increased level of confidence in deportment, which enable ease of manner when socialising during formal and informal occasions,” Ms. Henry said.
Some of the key areas that the seminar will cover under State Protocol are: official forms of address, flag etiquette, precedence for post-nominal letters, styles and titles in Jamaica, the use of the national symbols and how to draft formal letters of invitation. Meanwhile, under business etiquette, participants will be exposed to training in areas such as effective business entertainment, toasting, seating etiquette, how to be silverware savvy, table conversation, how to eat various foods, such as shelled fish, and the dos and don’ts of dining.
“As we prepare for Emancipation and Independence celebrations in August and other events in general, we want to ensure that key players master the art of protocol and business etiquette and apply it as they interface with Government officials and other dignitaries,” Ms. Henry said.
Main presenters at the seminar will be the Chief of State Protocol in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Elinor Felix, and former Food and Beverage Manager at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Nancy McLean. The course will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
